The Suliman Lab, in the UCSF Division of Experimental Medicine (DEM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), is interested in a Staff Research Associate I or II (SRA I or II) to work on human tuberculosis (TB) research. This laboratory is a dynamic research environment with translational research focused on identifying host factors associated with progression from infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis to active TB disease.
The successful applicant will work at an independent level to assist the Principal Investigator with establishing a sample management system and perform inventories of lab supplies and reagents and ordering, coordinating shipment and receipt of samples with local and international collaborators. Under the PI’s supervision, the SRA will also perform DNA and RNA extractions, flow cytometry, cell sorting and tissue culture experiments with primary human myeloid cells for the goal of dissecting transcriptional programs of innate immune cells in TB and establishing gene editing techniques to target candidate TB risk genes and dissect their roles in disease. Experience in molecular biology techniques, including genomic PCR, RT-PCR, cloning and sequencing, is desirable.
