Public Affairs Specialist
The PRAC is seeking a highly qualified individual(s) to serve as Public Affairs Specialists on our Outreach and Engagement team. We’re looking for creative communicators to help break down complex data and provide our external stakeholders including the public, the media, and Congress with important insights on the $5 trillion federal pandemic response.
The PRAC Public Affairs Specialist reports directly to the Associate Director of Outreach and Engagement. Typical work assignments may include:
- Supports communications and outreach goals, objectives, and plans to ensure Congress, the executive branch, the media, and the general public receives information about PRAC and partner OIGs’ work and operations
- Writes content for and distributes a variety of communications for internal and external audiences, including content for social media, web, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, text for graphics, presentations, talking points, and other items as needed
- Writes content in plain language and proofreads the work of others
- Researches, prepares and supports PRAC leadership and personnel for Congressional testimony and hearings, and for participation in media interviews and official public engagements, to include arranging for and assisting in briefings, interviews, and other engagements
- Drafts reports, assists with preparing written testimony, talking points, statements, and other related documents for senior OIG leadership for use when addressing members of Congress and congressional staff or the media
- Identifies, tracks, and reports issues of congressional, executive branch, media, and other public interest and activity to ensure PRAC and partner OIG personnel are kept appraised of legislative actions, congressional interests, and significant and/or emerging issues
- Researches and identifies potential partnership opportunities for the PRAC to reach our outreach and engagement objectives
- Develops and manages stakeholder listening sessions and events to promote public discussion of impact of pandemic response spending
- Coordinates communications with and, responds to requests for information from the Congress, press, and public
- Supports and executes PRAC digital communications activities, including writing for the web, email communications, and social media
- Supports planning and implementation of new initiatives and projects that will enhance the effectiveness of oversight activities
Experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the following:
- Experience in coordinating congressional activities, such as responding to requests for information from the Congress, summarizing hearings, tracking and analyzing legislation
- Experience in coordinating media affairs, including responding to inquiries from reporters and writing press releases
- Experience in writing a variety of products (including brochures, fact sheets, flyers, letters) for external and internal audiences, including website and social media content
