DUNKER PUNKS PODCAST SOCIAL MEDIA ORGANIZER
Reports to Marie Benner Rhoades, On Earth Peace Youth and Young Adult Formation
Director with direction and supervision from Suzanne Lay, Dunker Punks Podcast Executive Producer
The Dunker Punks Podcast is an audio show about the actions, ideas, and stories of a
community of radical Jesus followers. Motivated by the Sermon on the Mount, young adults from around the country take turns
offering content on topics ranging from peace, gender, racial justice, and creation care. The show is an invitation within and beyond the traditional church to join together in
conversations and movement for spiritual renewal and social justice.
The Dunker Punks Podcast is created by a non-hierarchical project team and audio
content is generated, unfiltered from each young adult contributor. On Earth Peace
provides organizational support for the project by sponsoring this paid internship for the
On Earth Peace is a Community of Practice for Justice & Peace, where practitioners
help each other use the tools of active nonviolence and conflict transformation to
overcome violence, oppression, and war, and build new communities of freedom,
justice, and reconciliation. Social media is an important channel our practitioners use to
share stories, practices, events, and ideas with partners, the public, and each other.
Help grow and connect the Dunker Punks community by sharing and expanding on podcast content, primarily through social media but also by phone, and conferences as time permits.
First, create a communications plan incorporating our current Facebook, Twitter Snapchat channels, and a monthly e-newsletter that will need to be both designed and launched. Then, gather baseline metrics before implementation. Cultivate community by continuously generating new social media content (based on and inspired by show content), actively monitoring and managing comment streams, and identifying additional opportunities for connecting. Regularly measure the impact of the strategy to continuously improve the plan in consultation with the podcast production team.
o Team up with our volunteer transcriptionist to ensure show transcriptions are posted in a timely manner
o Team up with our volunteer graphic designer to create visuals to pair with content you pull from the transcriptions to share.
o Create new digital content including transcriptions, visuals, audio clips etc.
Expanding on content:
o Find links and webpages mentioned in the show to share.
o Dive deeper into topics to find related action items, reading resources, and conversation starters.
o Monitor metrics via follows, likes, shares, recommendations, comments, show listens, donations, volunteers etc.
o Additionally, initiate and respond to opportunities for deepening community connections.
Thinking of connection on a gradient of participation, much of the social media work is
aimed at continuously reminding the audience of show content. Moving up the
engagement gradient, we want to constantly invite new listeners to check us out and
current listeners to apply and further the show content. As a couple of many possible examples, new listeners could be invited, people could be asked to participate in on or offline discussion about a show topic, or an action-event to support a cause shared on the show. Increasing engagement could be making art inspired by the show, volunteering for the project, donating or becoming an audio contributor. Generally, deepening community connections must be an ongoing and creative process of paying attention to openings for increasing engagement and making the most of opportunities as they arise. This part of the job will be supported by the show producer to help brainstorm new and review arising opportunities.
o Represent DPP at some conferences, as available, identifying and executing needed written materials and swag giveaways.
o Contact donors by letter or phone to thank them for their support.
o Light research for marketing initiatives generated by the production team (of which this position is a member). For example, our 100th episode will be in the spring, 2020, and we are planning a survey of all the ways people have connected through the show counting listeners, interviewees, donors etc.
o While monitoring metrics and managing comment streams, tune into andtake action to cultivate audience interest and gifts.
o The production team is always open to new ideas for energizing and
innovating connections amongst the Dunker Punks Community. For
example, direct mailings, reaching out to specific congregations and other
communities, initiating games online or meet-ups offline, etc.
