The Freedom Prep Teacher Residency Program is a prestigious, paid two-year program designed for recent college graduates and career changers entering the field of education. Through our partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education, Residents will work toward a TN Teaching License and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Freedom Prep will pay for the cost of enrollment as long as the Resident fulfills all commitments to the school and remains in good standing within the program. Residents spend the first year of the program as a co-teacher in a mentor teacher’s classroom receiving support from their mentor teacher and instructional coaching from school leadership. They gradually increase their teaching responsibilities before moving into a lead teaching role in the second year of the program. During the third and fourth years of the commitment, Residents serve as a mentor to incoming Residents and continue serving as a Lead Teacher. While it is not necessary to have a background in education, there are some Residents who have undergraduate or previous teacher training before beginning the program.
Throughout the residency program, Fellows receive professional development and coaching from the Freedom Prep Residency Director, School Leadership, and Relay Graduate School of Education. At the successful conclusion of the first two years of the residency program, residents will have earned their Master of Arts in Teaching and their Tennessee Teaching Certification.
Residents receive a salary and full benefits both years, in addition to tuition contributions. Residents are placed in all Freedom Prep schools in grades K-11.
