The summer intern in the Insurance Supervision & Regulation Section will help to develop quantitative tools for the Federal Reserve’s supervision of insurers that control depository institutions. This position will include working with other Board and Reserve Bank staff to design appropriate monitoring metrics, implementing these metrics, and presenting their work. The summer intern will also have the opportunity to participate in the Board’s other insurance work, including negotiating international standards.
Over the course of the internship, the student will learn about the regulation and supervision of insurance companies, insurance data and accounting, and programming. Programming could range from basic in Excel and VBA to more advanced quantitative techniques such as deep neural networks using R or Python. The student will also gain an understanding on the development of policy and regulation, participate in research, and gain experience creating reports and interpreting data sets.
Suggested Education: Ideal candidate would be a rising College junior or higher; Pursuing a degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Accounting (insurance desirable, not required), Economics, Computer science, or a related field of study
Required Skills and Knowledge:
-Experience with Microsoft Excel
-Experience with programming in Python, Stata, or R
