The Chesterfield County Transportation Department is seeking a dynamic engineer to handle a variety of traffic engineering, transportation planning and project management responsibilities. The successful candidate will provide professional and specialized traffic engineering support, recommendations, and technical assistance to multiple internal departments and external agencies. Duties include: leading and/or contributing as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, supervising and analyzing data collection efforts; conducting and reviewing a variety of operational and safety related traffic studies; conducting travel demand modeling and forecasting; managing citizen traffic complaints and requests; assisting in the preparation of funding requests and applications; supporting transportation local and regional planning efforts; conducting land development plan reviews; coordinating with other county departments and VDOT on traffic engineering related matters; managing project budgets and schedules. Perform other work as required. PLEASE NOTE: Position is open until filled (first review to begin October 25, 2021). Successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation planning, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training may substitute for degree. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)/ Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communications skills and experience with public meetings/hearings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a functional knowledge of transportation and engineering related software (HCS, Synchro, SIMTRAFFIC, SIDRA, VISSIM, GIS) are preferred. Knowledge of or experience with transportation planning software (CUBE) is preferred. Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, and other VDOT standards, specifications, and procedures. Knowledge of land development principles and practices. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
