Valley Shepherd Creamery is NJ’s largest artisan cheese and yogurt producer.
We produce over 35 types of aged and fresh cheese products and many types of sheep milk yogurts. Our products are sold at hundreds of retailers up and down the east coast under the Valley Shepherd and Simplysheep brand names.
For over 20 years, interns have spent 8-12 months on the farm learning the details of cheesemaking, marketing of dairy products, yogurt production, wholesale distributionand overall operations of the business.
We usually accept 2-4 interns every year with a food science, biology, agribusiness, animal science and related fields. We look for folks who have a passion for making amazing foods, with attention to detail and the desire to go into a future food business.
Interns work shoulder to shoulder with our production staff and are expected to learn the craft of artisan cheesemaking over 8-12 months living at the farm in our intern house.
We usually have 1-2 European interns on site and the group alternates between areas of cheese making, yogurt making, chees cave mgmt, farmer markets, trade shows, instore demos and other related activities. in addition to the 300 in weekly cash, free housing is included onsite in our ‘intern house’ which is a single fam 3brm, 2 bath house.
