About On Earth Peace:
On Earth Peace (OEP) is a nonprofit organization that develops and walks with leaders and communities who work for justice and peace, using the spiritual and practical disciplines of active nonviolence, community building, and conflict transformation. We work with churches and community groups, youth and young adults, and individuals of all ages. OEP is also an agency of the Church of the Brethren, a Historic Peace Church. We have played a key role in the development of online Kingian Nonviolence training programs and participate actively in the Kingian Nonviolence Coordinating Committee.

Context for the Position
Two key elements of On Earth Peace current strategic plan are to prepare individuals and communities to be ready to use Kingian Nonviolence to address violence and injustice. On Earth Peace offers brief and extended online training programs in Kingian Nonviolence, and face-to-face programs as travel and public health conditions permit. It is advantageous for the (fellow/intern) to have grounding in the Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation approach and curriculum (Jehnsen and LaFayette) [Level One Certification is a plus but not required].
What You’ll Do
The Kingian Nonviolence Intern will
- Build and deepen the Kingian Nonviolence Learning Action Community to create a sense of Beloved Community
- Clean up, refresh and rebuild the Kingian Nonviolence Network Facebook group as a dynamic place of engagement about the Kingian legacy, Kingian Nonviolence, and contemporary nonviolence practice
- Foster relational power and connection within the community
- Support continued Learning and Action for group members (see LAC document).
- Administer and provide support for On Earth Peace’s fall 2020 online Kingian Nonviolence Level One certification.
- Support and develop the participant group through correspondence, followup, and engagement via online platforms
- Participate in program planning and related tasks
- Upload and help manage learning platform, files & videos
- Support technical aspects of Zoom meetings
- Research or find program resources for different segments of the curriculum
- Skills and experience permitting, provide some program facilitation.
- Other responsibilities as needed
- Provide technical/administrative support for the Kingian Nonviolence Deep Dive (2019-2020), ending in December 2020
- Create and organize online infrastructure for OEP KNV resources
- Build OEP’s internal resource files for KNV training
- Sort and sift existing resources into a program library to support emerging trainers and leaders
- Support OEP’s online introductory/briefer KNV programming (single webinars, etc.) and more in-depth cohort programming, through promotion & recruitment, administration, and possibly tech support, facilitation, design, or other tasks as needed
- Assist OEP to develop a practice of “content marketing,” producing blog posts, memes, videos or other resources from OEP and KNV programs.
- Research, support, and promote leading Kingian Nonviolence organizations and practitioners in the field; help build relationships with other Kingian training and organizing groups.
- Participate (at least occasionally) in meetings and work of the Kingian Nonviolence Coordinating Committee (KNCC) and Institute for Human Rights and Responsibilities, Inc.
The Kingian Nonviolence Fellow will
- Help anchor our Kingian expertise within the organization, helping institutionalize the Kingian approach across the organization and our communities.
- Specifically, support organizing interns who are bringing Kingian Nonviolence to bear within the Learning Action Communities they support.
- Assure that the principles and practices of active nonviolence and skilled movement building are integral to all activities and conversations in all our LAC interactions.
- Conduct KNV outreach and development through writing, social media, newsletters, online events and webinars, book clubs, live feeds, petitions, emails, phone calls, and meetings.
- Promote, administer, and in some cases co-design and or co-facilitate programs teaching Kingian Nonviolence.

You will gain valuable experience in community building and organizing, and will develop a firm understanding of the right tactics to combine online marketing with overarching outreach goals. Specifically, you will grow in these and many other important skills:
- How to structure an extended online learning program.
- How to use content marketing to build an organization’s relevance and resource
- Gain familiarity with the ins and outs of online learning infrastructure
- How to cultivate sustained impact, engagement, and community.
- How to build relationships with a wide variety of nonviolence practitioners and organizations.
- How to track social media and other analytics, and report results.
- How to develop compelling content that will be shared by influencers.
- How to learn from creative feedback and viral loops, and discover new ideas.
- How to develop, manage, and evaluate effective community building strategy.
- Deep exposure to the principles and practices of active nonviolence and conflict transformation for building justice and peace throughout your life.

- Passion for the work of justice and peace, and a genuine interest in learning more deeply about the practices of active nonviolence and conflict transformation.
- Creative self-starter who is comfortable with taking initiative and working on your own, and with working in close collaboration with teams and groups as needed.
- Multitasking finisher who can prioritize and make progress on multiple projects at once (both in parallel and serial), and is committed to finalizing each project on time.
- Detail-oriented influencer with strong written and verbal communication skills, and a good eye for compelling graphics, photos, videos, headlines, and stories.
- Enough power-user technical savvy to manage the tools and techniques of various online productivity tools and social media platforms creatively and effectively.
- Ability and motivation to independently, purposefully, and productively research your LAC’s area of work, to support and promote leading organizations and practitioners.
- Strong social organizing skills and instincts for calling people into community.
- Ability and eagerness to work in the practices of one-to-one community building via email, phone, chat, and video meetings, and where available in person.
- Creative energy and drive with a desire to come up with fresh ideas to grow your LAC and enhance engagement, participation, identification, and belonging there.
- Willingness to try new things, take risks, accept responsibility, and learn.
- Ability to understand many different kinds of people, to listen to and speak to them, and to build bridges while maintaining clear commitments to our core values.
- A high degree of intellectual and emotional confidence and maturity to comprehend and work with abstract concepts at a practical, concrete level of application.
Location
This job will be done from your school or home. You will need good reliable internet and phone access. You will need enough time in your schedule to be available for regular phone and video meetings, as well as be reachable as needed by email, phone, text, and video call.
Position Available (8/15/2020)
These jobs are available all three semesters (fall, spring, summer) on a rolling basis. We are open to more than one intern organizer at a time working in some of these areas.
