Position Summary
We’re looking to hire a curious and talented Technology Associate to join our team. You’ll be responsible for developing systems to ensure that GIFCT’s mission can be delivered effectively and efficiently as well as interfacing with GIFCT member companies at a technical level to understand their needs and constraints and ensure that GIFCT technical solutions deliver impact for our members. You’ll collaborate with our Director of Technology & Engineering Solutions and Technical Lead learning from their experience and mentorship.
This role is a hands-on and practical role, that is ideal for a flexible and adaptable technologist that has experience of full-stack development and is eager to learn and grow as they deliver impact and solve problems.
Experience of countering or preventing terrorism and violent extremism or experience in trust and safety is strongly desirable but not essential, however passion and enthusiasm for GIFCT’s mission of preventing terrorist and violent extremists from exploiting digital platforms is a must.
Role Description: Technology Associate
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting GIFCT member companies as they integrate with GIFCT’s HSDB and other systems.
- Development of applications for management of and interaction with GIFCT data.
- Supporting the development of GIFCT’s Cloud Infrastructure including building data products and pipelines and enhancing security.
- Supporting the development of a reference architecture for Trust and Safety at GIFCT
- Other technical support to GIFCT’s Incident Response and Operations.

Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field
- Proficient knowledge of front-end web programming languages and frameworks with ability to render server-side and client-side content
- Proficient knowledge of one or more back-end programming languages
- Familiarity with common programming design patterns and best practices
- Experience with common web development tools and services, such as version control software and package managers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 or more year of experience as a professional technologist
- Experience in trust and safety engineering, policy, or content moderation
- Experience with terrorism and violent extremism studies, research or prevention.
- Experience with OSINT and online investigations
- Experience with any of the following technologies:
- SQL database management (schema design, querying, administration)
- Cloud infrastructure development and administration (AWS)
- React, Javascript, HTML & CSS
- Python, Flask app development
- API development, REST APIs
- Data engineering skills (data cleaning, infrastructure, integration, etc.)
- Data analysis with Python, Jupyter
- Systems architecture design
- Continuous integration/continuous deployment
- Software testing (Unit, integration, acceptance testing)
- Docker
- Version control (Git)
- Experience with user needs assessment and project management
