Hours per Week: Depending on skills and experience: 16-24 (we would like the 16 to 24 but less is fine)
Position Description:
We are seeking people who would like to help newly arrived families settle into their new homes. Working alongside our staff and in compliance with the Department of State and USCCB to provide newly arrived refugee families (or other eligible populations) with supplies that they need to be successful in the United States. We supply all the things they need when they arrive from toothpaste to furniture. Your help with this position helps families within hours of arrival and can help welcome them to their new community. This position may assist with warehouse organization and management of distribution of those items.
Position Responsibilities can include:
- Assist in managing warehouse operations staff assigned to receive, store, pack, and distribute household items.
- Assist staff in maintaining the warehouse to be following all applicable Federal Occupational Safety and Administration (OSHA), State and local agency regulatory safety, and health requirements under the direction of the warehouse supervisor.
- Keep track of donations coming in and leaving the warehouse.
- Some duties may be helping to maintain the safety warehouse by sweeping and mopping with disinfectant and removal of trash and recycling material, planning physical layouts of stock, and arranging for any needed repairs.
- Must have good customer service skills and interact professionally with vendors, food donors, volunteers, parishes, and community organizations.
- Assist with interoffice pickup/ transfer of client supply goods.
- Other duties as assigned by the warehouse manager.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience in logistics and planning – is helpful.
- Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license.
- Take and acknowledge the safe handling and lifting training.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Dari / Pashto speaker helpful but not required.
- Must be able to lift to forty-five pounds safely from a standing position. Must also be able to use such items as hand trucks, dollies, and carts.
- Must be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard and handle heavy boxes; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and climb a ladder.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
