Project Assistant, Government Affairs, Shanghai
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
APCO Worldwide – a leading global communications and strategy consultancy – is seeking a Project Assistant in Shanghai who will work under the supervision of a consultant.
The Project Assistant is involved with day-to-day support of client projects by drafting materials (i.e. summary reports, press releases, credentials, and proposals), media monitoring, and conducting and analyzing research on a variety of client related issues, will interface with all levels of staff and may have contact with staff members of the client’s organization regarding project issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares customized credential packages for prospective clients, highlighting APCO capabilities, relevant case studies, and high-level industry notes and observations (which requires a minimal review by project managers)
- Drafts complete initial proposals for client work
- Participates actively in internal and client meetings, offering knowledgeable observations and suggestions
- Is able to maintain email/telephone contacts with clients as needed, without requiring a supervisor to intervene on routine matters
- Contributes to and prepares the “basic” reports required in the specific functional capacity (e.g, perception audits, market studies, provincial reports, summary reports, etc.) with minimal guidance and review by managers
- Proactively identifies external meetings and trainings to attend to build sector knowledge and contacts
- Demonstrates awareness of utilization and expectations, coordinating with project leaders to manage them
QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS
EDUCATION: University degree or higher, preferred in Journalism, Political Science, International Affairs, Economics or related fields.
LANGUAGES:
- Excellent English ang Chinese research, writing and editing skills.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 6 months’ internship or full-time work experience preferably in an industry association, think tank, government or diplomatic posting.
CORE SKILLS:
- Familiarity and keen interest in topics relating to China’s political and economic development, strong knowledge of any of APCO’s focus sectors (such as technology, healthcare, retail and education industries) is a plus.
- Strong research, communication, critical thinking and analytic skills.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to articulate messages clearly and in a style appropriate to the target audience.
- Good time management and a proactive learning attitude.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently, take initiative and set priorities.
VISA:
- Candidates must be eligible to work in China. APCO will provide the qualified candidate with visa support.
- Preference is given to candidates already located in mainland China.
